Are Headshots Worth It?

With the way technology keeps progressing in our phones, photos taken with our cell phones are getting better and better. So it really begs the question, are headshots worth it? Especially when they come with a price tag and the time taken away from your busy schedule with a professional photographer. It seems like the easier choice is to just have one of your co-workers take a quick shot of you at the office, no? It’s good enough, right?

But tell me why would you want something that’s good enough?

Getting your picture taken can often be nerve-racking and uncomfortable. But I can promise you, that if you’re with the right photographer all of those worries disappear. Don’t you want to put your best foot forward? A good headshot can help you get your new job, help you get a promotion, draw in new business, and portray confidence, friendliness, and an except in your field.

When I log onto to linked-in and all I see are rows of poorly lit, pixelated headshots I cringe. Yes, I’m biased, but you’re really telling me that if you were comparing hiring two different professionals for a task. One just had an old obvious iPhone photo and the other clearly took the time to hire a pro. The bets are, you’re gonna go with the professional who is smiling at the camera and has a well-lit photograph. Here’s why, because again, it portrays confidence and that that person is an expert in their field! There should be no wavering on who they should go with, it’s set in stone!

We live in an online world now, your headshot is just as important as your handshake.

No one wants to shake a limp hand! Your headshot needs to be an accurate representation of who you are now, not trendy, with no crazy lighting, and more preferably a clean backdrop free from distraction.
