Tessa & Sepp’s Edmonton Couples Session.

Sharing Tessa and Sepp’s Edmonton couples session today! The two of them and their dog Juniper are simply the best (cue the music)! You can never deny it, shooting friends its the utmost fun. I feel like I really get to try new things, out of the box things. With little to no risk. So I always have a great time and I’m really thankful my friends are up for me dragging them around in whatever circumstances.

But more than that, I love love love shooting in just weird places. Yes I love to go to beautiful scenic places, with cascading backdrops and vast landscapes. Going to the mountains is always super fun and I of course can get very creative out there. But something just hits different when I’m put in a weird place, a place that maybe not many would think would be a good spot for photos. Which was exactly what we did for Tessa and Sepp’s shoot.

Literarily we just strolled on down to the school park in their neighbourhood. It pushed me to try some new angles in order to eliminate the distractions in the background. And the results were really cool. I don’t think you can tell at all where we are.

So I always get a good laugh when other photographers message me, asking me about a specific location on photos like these. And I just have to tell them that it’s nothing fancy. In fact far from it! I think some photographers and clients are far too concerned about shooting in “beautiful” spaces when in reality you can create something even cooler and unique when you step outside that box. I think it can create limitations and certain locations get really over used as a result. And if I’m being honest, sometimes I get bored seeing a different couple in the exact same location all the time by so many different photographers.
